چکیده
Studies considering the functional traits of organisms, populations, and communities indices increase understanding many factors on ecosystem functioning. Here, we analyze predation effect (by fish) zooplankton diversity effects biomass density periphytic algae feeding type trait body size. We expect that intense by fish leads to higher values food resource will be positively related abundance For that, microcosms were established (T1- fish-absence, T2- fish-presence, both with as food). observed presence decreased through modifications in availability nutrients algae, middle-out effect. also size had a negative relationship resource, reaffirming high subtropical lakes is linked small-bodied zooplankton. The raptorial copepods covariate which was an alternative and, this case, main form carbon input into system. In study, omnivorous reduced traits, can alter energy stock flow aquatic ecosystems.

Influences of Food Availability and Predation on Survival of Kittiwakes
Life history theory predicts a trade-off between current reproduction and survival to maximize fitness. In long-lived seabirds, one might expect adults not to jeopardize survival by excessive reproductive investment when environmental conditions for breeding are adverse. Some environmental factors have reduced the fecundity of Blacklegged Kittiwakes (Rissa tridactyla) breeding in Shetland, UK, ...
متن کاملStrategies of zooplanktivory shape the dynamics and diversity of littoral plankton communities: a mesocosm approach
Planktivorous fish can exert strong top-down control on zooplankton communities. By incorporating different feeding strategies, from selective particulate feeding to cruising filter feeding, fish species target distinct prey. In this study, we investigated the effects of two species with different feeding strategies, the three-spined stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus (L.)) and roach (Rutilus ...

An experimental investigation of the zooplankton community of a small Minnesota pond was conducted for 2 years to determine the mechanisms maintaining its structure and to show that it is predictably organized. A mechanistic interpretation of the strncture o f this community cannot be made solely on the basis of predation, but also requires evaluation o f the relative competitive abilities of t...
متن کاملThe Impact of Fish Predation and Cyanobacteria on Zooplankton Size Structure in 96 Subtropical Lakes
Zooplankton are relatively small in size in the subtropical regions. This characteristic has been attributed to intense predation pressure, high nutrient loading and cyanobacterial biomass. To provide further information on the effect of predation and cyanobacteria on zooplankton size structure, we analyzed data from 96 shallow aquaculture lakes along the Yangtze River. Contrary to former studi...
متن کاملEffects of predation environment and food availability on somatic growth in the Livebearing Fish Brachyrhaphis rhabdophora (Pisces: Poeciliidae)
Variation in somatic growth rates is of great interest to biologists because of the relationship between growth and other fitness-determining traits, and it results from both genetic and environmentally induced variation (i.e. plasticity). Theoretical predictions suggest that mean somatic growth rates and the shape of the reaction norm for growth can be influenced by variation in predator-induc...
